Admit it, you have asked this question more than once. So far as Romania is concerned, only souvenirs in the form of Dracula or with his image appear in my head. But in fact, this is not all the country is famous for!

Traditional Romanian souvenirs:

  • Ana Aslan Cosmetics. The products of this brand are known as the “elixir of youth”. This makeup was used by Jacqueline Kennedy, Salvador Dali and even Marlene Dietrich.

Almost any goods are allowed to be exported from Romania. The main condition is the presence of a receipt for purchases. For household appliances, jewelry and artworks, a declaration must be made. It is forbidden to export from the country without special permission:

  • National clothes. These are entari, inchik, bloomers, gowns. They can be effectively combined with modern clothes, such as jeans.

Taste of Turkey: edible souvenirs

  • Turkish sweets. Rahat-lukum, halva, baklava, pishmaniye, lokma, tulumba, nougat, cream honey, etc. This is the most universal tasty souvenir from the trip.
  • Spices. It is worth paying attention to those ones that you are unlikely to find at home. These are sumac, “isot” pepper, tarkhana, baharat, blue poppy, etc. So much inspiration for culinary experiments.
  • Turkish coffee. Local coffee is distinguished by its powdery grind. Moreover, nutmeg or cardamom is added for a more refined taste.

  • Raki.Turkish vodka, which is made from fruits, grapes, dates. The strength is 40-50 degrees. So that everything is fine with it.

Goods that are forbidden to take out of Turkey

And here is a surprise… It turns out that officially it is forbidden to take out coffee, spices, tea, or cocoa from Turkey. But in practice tourists do not have problems with these products. As well as with food products weighing over 5 kg and totaling over 100 lira.

But there is a list of goods where problems may arise …

  • Antiques. This is a standard prohibition. You need a special permit to export antiques.
  • Pebbles, shells, corals. At customs they can be considered a national treasure. If you buy souvenirs made of these materials, be sure to keep the receipt.
  • Alcohol and tobacco.  You can take no more than 5 liters of alcohol, and no more than 2 bottles of 0.75 of strong alcohol. Tobacco, including hookah tobacco, is not more than 2 kg. You shall pay the duty for bigger quantities.
  • Souvenirs that cost over 5000 lire.

However, before the trip it is better to clarify this information. After all, the seasonal situation may change before the new tourist.

These original souvenirs are hard to walk past

The choice of souvenirs is huge, so you will definitely find a gift for your nearest and dearest here.

1. Jewelry from larimar, or Dominican turquoise. This stone with a white and blue tint is a visiting card of the Dominican Republic.

3. Shark amulet. It is made from fish teeth. According to local residents, it is both a talisman and a source of positive energy.

4. Crafts from black coral. They can be both minifigures and decorations.

5. Coconut souvenirs. It’s amazing how craftsmen create exquisite minifigures, earrings and bracelets from unsightly putamen. No one else will have these for sure.

Souvenirs with a taste of Dominican exotic

The exotic country is rich in exotic products fortunately possible to be taken along with.

1. Mamajuana. The drink is a panacea for all diseases, according to the locals. It is made from herbs, honey, spices, bark and wine. There is also a dry version – a mixture of herbs in a bottle. It is also lighter in weight, and there are no restrictions on import or export.

2. Caribbean rum. It can be bought everywhere. But if possible, visit the Barceló factory in San Pedro de Marcoris. And you will see how it is created, and you will taste it, and have the opportunity to buy the original drink at the manufacturer’s price.

3. Coffee. Dominican coffee is distinguished by a peculiar, slightly sour taste and a bitter aftertaste. If you want even more exotic, pay attention to the famous Caracolillo. Or coffee with various additives, such as macadamia.

5. Fruits. Some countries prohibit the export of fruit. But the Dominican Republic is not one of them. So, lovers of the exotic may celebrate. However, keep in mind that not all delicacies will survive a long flight.

6. Cigars. Almost all cigars are handmade. The choice is enormous, because each manufacturer adds his own stuff to the original “formula”. You can buy cigars in souvenir shops, supermarkets and factories.

“Souvenirs” to refuse the export of

No matter how much these things attract your attention, it is better not to put them in your luggage.

1. Many types of shells that you “got” yourself. Corals and turtle shell.

2. Local currency. So Dominican coins and banknotes are not to enlarge your collection.

3. Some types of orchids. It is true! The flower would hardly survive the flight.

4. Natural precious and semi-precious stones.

5. Animal-derived food. Fruit, as you remember, can be exported.

But why be disappointed about restrictions when there are so many interesting things you may bring home. We wish you a great holiday, unforgettable impressions and bright souvenirs.

But this country is rich not only in tastes but also in aesthetics.

  • The Vučedolska golubica (dove) is an exact copy of an ancient jar from 5,000 years ago. Scientists have deciphered the drawings of the constellations on the vessel: from Orion and Cassiopeia to the Pleiad clusters. Isn’t it insightful!?
  • Colored candles from the city of Rovinj – classic or according to your design. Local masters will turn any idea into reality.
  • Samborski Kristal shines in the sun like a jewel. It was produced in a town 20 km from the capital of Croatia. Handmade quality is not inferior to Bohemian glass.

Sweets are well worth a visit.

  • Rabska torta (cake) is the pride of the island of Rab. The recipe is kept secret. They will only tell you that it resembles marzipan.
  • Paprenjak – pepper cookies – the favorite sweet of the Croats. They say that the taste of pepper and honey reflects the spirit of the country: the bitterness of wars and the sweetness of natural beauties.

  • Bayadera – branded sweets. Something like nougat and bird’s milk. They are very tasty.

National souvenirs to prolong the holiday experiences:

  • Morcher – a talisman against evil forces. It looks colorful: the head of an African American in a turban and jewelry in the form of rings. Previously, only sailors wore them, now everyone and his dog.

Tourists appreciate local cosmetics based on herbs and sea fruits. ‘Milla’ is the most famous cosmetic brand.
